Laser is an acronym for light, amplification, stimulated, emission of radiation.

The laser generates a high-energy light beam that can be precisely controlled to remove 25 microns of skin layer each time. Because the laser beam is very precise, it causes little tissue inflammation and thereby reduces the chance of scarring.

The laser generates radiation, specifically electromagnetic radiation, which can travel freely in space. Once it hits tissue, be it skin or eye, the energy within the laser beam will be transferred to the tissue. It is the amount of energy and the depth of tissue penetration and absorption that determine the effect the laser has on that tissue.

Because energy delivered is precise, effect on tissue can be fine-tuned and thereby prevent collateral damage to the tissue. It is with this principle that laser and other related technology is being developed for application in medicine.
